Owen is a Big Brother

Today Owen became a big brother. While he was sound asleep at home, we sneaked off to the hospital and had Marcus at 1:02 a.m. Daddy was able to get home before Owen even woke up and knew anything had happened!

This is Owen meeting his brother for the first time. We still hadn't decided on a name at this point so Owen kept calling him "baby" in the most adorable manner.

Owen's still a mama's boy and didn't seem to mind sharing mommy cuddles.

Our growing family of four!

Fire Truck Bed

As Owen's Big Boy Room is coming to a finish, we have been working towards getting him to sleep in his fire truck bed. Last night was the first night that he slept in his new bed. What a big boy he is becoming!

Getting ready for Baby

Daddy and Owen gave Mommy's car a good cleaning today. We decided it was time to rearrange the car seats to accommodate for the infant carrier which will soon be going in there. Owen has always sat in the middle of the backseat...so it's very strange to have him sitting right next to the door. It will be even more strange to have two little men sitting back there!

Owen's 2 Year Doctor Checkup

We took Owen in for his checkup today. This visit was with Kathy, the pediatric nurse that we like to see. Owen was so well behaved, it was a nice, smooth appointment. Owen's height was measured at 34.25 inches which is in the 5oth percentile. I'm not sure how accurate that it...he does seem to be on the short size compared to other kids his age, but it's nothing to worry about. He weight was 24.5 lbs which puts him in the 10th percentile. This is not surprising at all given Owen's genes. I think he's destined to be a skinny kid! The best part was no Immunizations for this visit. All he got was the H1N1 booster and he took it in strides without a single tear.

Are you ready to share, Owen?

Owen got into his pod chair and found it quite funny to sit in. I was a bit surprised that he still fit in there, but then again, he is a skinny kid. It made me wonder how he's going to react to seeing his things used by his brother. I hope he's ready to share!

Learning to Ride

I was watching out the window as Daddy was teaching Owen how to peddle his bike. It had to be the most adorable thing to watch. I must have been going crazy because it took me a while to realize that I should run out and snap a photo. I've always thought that Owen has really good motor skills, so I don't think it'll be long until he figures out the peddling thing and we'll be running all over the place to keep up with him!

Trucks, Trucks, Trucks

Daddy came home with a trunk full of hand-me-down trucks from a friend. Owen was in heaven.

Put away the camera, Mom!

This is Owen's look when he doesn't want me to take his photo and wants to concentrate on watching his video about Fire Trucks.

Lego Men

A birthday gift from Aunt Leslie, Uncle Mike and cousin Elizabeth came in the mail today. It was an awesome fire station lego set.
I'm not sure who was more excited to build the station...Owen or Daddy. They both had a great time putting it all together.
Thank you so much Menges'!

Birthday Party Playgroup

Since I didn't have a big birthday planned for Owen, I thought it would be nice to invite all his playgroup friends over for a special little gathering. I had no idea that everyone would be so excited to come...so I had seven kids and moms in the house!

I read in a book that it would be fun for 2 year olds to paint with colored vanilla pudding. Owen was so excited to paint, he couldn't wait to get the paint brushes out.

Olivia was quite the serious painter. She has been known to eat strange stuff, but she was so engrossed in the painting that she didn't really even try to take a taste!

Little Alice was all about the stickers!

Carrot cake cupcakes were also a big hit. Owen was a bit taken back as all the moms sang happy birthday to him, but he was in his element with all the attention.

While it was fun to have everyone over, it was also a bit overwhelming for Owen and his pregnant mommy. We both ended up crashing for a long nap after everyone left!

Happy 2nd Birthday!

After spending the morning at the museum, and taking a big nap, Owen got treated to lots of fun gifts. He tore into everything with gusto...a gift opening pro! Then we had our neighbors and close friends over for some cake and ice cream. YUM!

Owen's Birthday at the Museum

We didn't have any big super plans for Owen's second birthday, so Brian and I decided to take the day off work and spend it with Owen. We took him to the Children's Museum downtown...one of his favorite places. Here are some of my favorite highlights:

Owen absolutely loves the first room with all the golf balls and raceways to drop the balls in. He would stay in there the entire time if you let him.

The b-ball court with the mini-baskets was also lots of fun. Owen has been really into basketball and loves to shout out "Slam Dunk!"

I was so proud as Owen patiently waited for his turn to get into this car. Other kids were all over it pushing and shoving, but Owen kept his eye on the situation and finally got his chance to get in. He loves anything with a steering wheel these days.

Lots of sand fun with Dadddy.

A ride in an airplane.

And the bobcat in the construction zone was a must.
Checking out turtles...or posing for Mommy. You decide.
All in all it was a fun time and it exhausted Owen so much that he feel sound asleep during the ride home.

So Happy

You have to love Owen's smile. He's usually just so happy it's contagious. I was recently told my one of his daycare teachers that Owen can get a whole room laughing. It made me feel good to think, yeah, I have a happy kid!

Putting Owen to Work!

The weather has turned a bit nicer, so Owen and I spend some time outside. Since I can never sit still, I thought it would be a good idea if we got a head start on some spring cleaning yard work. Owen had his own mini rake and was all set to go!

Since I'm not so great at the bending over part with being pregnant, Owen and Daddy spent the next day picking up all the piles we had made. Gotta love the dedication of a kid out in his PJs helping Dad with lawn work.
