An Owen Video Exclusive!!!

Owen does this really cute thing where he points up to the sky when he hears an airplane flying over. He also loves to clap his hands. This afternoon we went to a park and I was playing around with the video feature of my camera and caught him doing both of his tricks! A plane few over and parents were clapping at a nearby little league game. Check it out:

Phone Talker

Daddy and I are bad about leaving the phone laying around. Owen is fond of seeking it out and playing with it. I get nervous about him pushing the buttons. I have this weird fear that he's going to accidentally dial 911. But he does this adorable thing where he tucks the phone under his chin and starts "talking" away. It was really hard to get a good photo of this because he kept running away from me...probably since I usually try and take the phone away!

Spoiled?

Is it awful to go a bit out of the way to shop at a specific grocery store because of "special" shopping carts for kids? It makes shopping so much easier when Owen is having such a good time! And don't be fooled...it was Daddy's idea to shop here!

Can He Be Any Cuter?!!

Owen did a great job of putting up with me and my shopping today. He doesn't usually love to hang out in his stroller, but today he did really well just chillin' out. So I rewarded him with one of these kiddie rides. It was so funny the way he would babble and yell at people walking by. He seemed to have such a fun time.

Grandpa should be Proud

I picked up this mower for Owen to play with outside. I think Daddy enjoys it just as much as Owen...but it's so cute to see Owen pushing it around. Now if only we could get him to do it on the grass!

Transitions

This morning Owen slept in until 7:45. That may not sound like "sleeping in" for most people, but for Owen it's great. He actually slept in until 9 yesterday, which was even more wonderful...but I'll take 7:45. Until now, he was always a super early riser. 5:30-6 am was his normal. I tried everything to try and get him to sleep a little longer, but nothing worked. He just always woke up by 6. But now we are transitioning to one nap a day. They have been doing this at daycare for a while in preparation for his move to the toddler room, but I've also starting doing it at home. One nice, long nap. Unfortunately, he doesn't sleep as long at daycare...but it's good to get him on the same routine every day. Yeah for sleep!

*Update* Daddy wants credit for getting Owen to sleep in. We don't want to overlook that Brian got up at the wee hours of the morning to change Owen's diaper and put him back in bed to "cry it out" a couple of times. It seemed to help that Owen didn't see me and want to nurse.

Pusher II

See what I mean? He saw Daddy pushing the broom around this evening, so he just had to give it a try!

Pusher

Owen just loves to push things around. He gets so focused about it...nothing can distract him. Pushing his wagon provides all kinds of enjoyment when we're outside. There are times when I think he'd rather push the wagon than take a ride in it. There are other things in the house that he loves to walk around and push as well. One morning he was obsessed with pushing an empty laundry basket around that he would get so upset if he got stuck somewhere. What a funny guy!

Sick

Owen has an ear infection in his right ear...so he has not been a happy camper this week. The tissues are not really needed for this illness, but I snapped this photo because he does like to take them all out of the box. Since this is really the first time Owen has been sick, we are trying to take it easy and let him get lots of sleep. Eating and drinking are not things he's interested in, so there has been lots of nursing and worrying if he's doing okay. We are on our second antibiotic...but both seem to give him diarrhea which is not fun for anyone! Yuck. Add some teething to the mix and you get one uncomfortable, little guy. Feel better soon little man!

14 Months Old

I never seem to find the right words to describe how overjoyed we are with having Owen in our lives. Each day with him seems so fun and special. We are crazy about him. As Mother's Day has just passed, I was reflecting that I don't feel like I've earned a mom title yet. I don't know why I feel this way...maybe because Owen has been such an easy and fun little guy that it has not seem like a lot of work. Oh, don't get me wrong...he has had his moments and there have been times when I've been wanting more sleep. But the reality is, just having him here is such a wonderful gift, that I don't ever feel like being a mom is such a job. I want to sooth the pain, I want to make sure he's happy, I want to always be there for him. Being a parent has been such a great experience so far.

I love to document Owen’s milestones each month. I enjoy thinking about all the changes and growth that have happened in just the past few weeks. Of course when someone asks me a question like “When did Owen first sit on his own?” I totally forget…but it’s all here on his blog for reference, so it’s okay that my memory seems to be going.

14 month milestones:
  • This month has been all about walking. Owen had made vast improvements with his walking that he now prefers it to crawling. It has been so fun to watch this development. He has gone from wobbly to walking with pretty good confidence. He used to struggle a lot in our house with the wooden thresholds that are at each doorway…now he maneuvers past them without a problem. He still can’t stand up without using something to pull himself up, but he is doing so well toddling around.
  • Owen is a big fan of containers. Taking things out of contains, putting things in, and fitting a lid on top.
  • Is doing well eating with his fingers (though Daddy says he makes a massive mess when eating his favorite…cereal bars). He has even shown a lot of interest lately in using a spoon on his own. While I find it quite messy to have him dip his spoon into yogurt, it is nice that he is showing interest in doing this himself.
  • Owen has become somewhat interested in scribbling with crayons. He likes to grab pens and hold them like he is writing. I probably need to encourage this more…I just don’t think I’m ready to have everything scribbled on yet!
  • Owen loves to push and pull things around. His wagon, a laundry basket, stroller, anything that he is strong enough to move on his own.
  • Owen has been spending more time outside and has slowly become more interested in balls. He’s not great about passing a ball back and forth, but lately he has been going around and collecting balls to put in his wagon. Tennis balls have become a recent favorite. In the Celtic fever that’s happening…Daddy got Owen a mini b-ball hoop. I’ve seen him put tennis balls through the hoop, but he’s not super consistent yet.
  • Owen is a boy of few words. I have heard him say “hi”, which is new…but he hasn’t really been into talking yet.
  • Teething seems to be this constant question mark for us. I’m not sure how much it affects him, but he does get his cranky periods and times when eating isn’t great that I wonder if his teeth are bothering him. He is currently working on tooth three and four on the bottom.

Faneuil Hall

Before they left, our last order of business was to visit downtown and get baby Elizabeth some souvenirs to commemorate her first trip to Boston.

Cousins

Just a cute snapshot of Owen and Elizabeth.

Owen's Favorite Place

We took Grandma, Aunt Leslie and cousin Elizabeth to Owen's favorite place: Lincoln Park.

Owen enjoyed some rides down the slide with Daddy.

Took a ride on the bus!

And Grandma found out that these things aren't ideal for those over 50 lbs.

Baby Elizabeth was a bit sleepy, but she enjoyed a ride in the swing.

Wagon Rides

Owen is ALWAYS up for a wagon ride...even if he has to share his wagon!

Rub A Dub, Dub, Two Kiddies in the Tub

Owen was not thrilled at first to loose half of the tub space to his cousin...but it was nothing that a bit of singing and blowing bubbles didn't fix.

Cousin Elizabeth

Owen's cousin, Elizabeth, is here visiting and Owen got to show her all the baby gear that he has outgrown. The rainforest jumper (above) was a huge favorite, but now that he is on the move so much, he hates to be confined to such a thing. But it was cute to watch him play with Elizabeth in it.

Morning Routine

Every morning when we open the back door, Owen is right there looking out. He always seems eager to get going...and waving bye-bye. I swear, I think he looks forward to going to daycare. This might pull at my heart strings a bit, but honestly, the way he runs to me when I go to pick him up makes up for it.
"Owen, where's your jacket?"
