Owen Kuder...the next Jesse Owens???

We took Owen to another different playground in Lexington. We are so lucky to have so many great parks to visit only a short distance from our house. This playground is part of the whole Lexington Recreation Park and Owen was very interested in all the other activities going on.
And he made his way over to the track and took off. I can't believe how big our little guy is getting!

Saturday Project

Daddy was busy today making me a box so that I could start an herb garden. Owen enjoyed getting in on the building fun.

Spring, Finally!

Spring has finally sprung here in New England so we've been enjoying much more time outside. Owen is on the move so much that he can't be bothered to stand still for mommy to get a picture of him in front of the blooming forsythia.

Brushing Teeth

Owen officially has 6 teeth right now...4 on top and 2 on bottom. I'm probably late on this, but I just got Owen his first toothbrush today and gave brushing a try while he took a bath. Owen was not too thrilled with this new development, even though the toothpaste tasted like bubblegum and the toothbrush had Elmo on it! Any moms out there have any tips on how to make this a more enjoyable routine?

Happy Patriots Day!

Patriots Day is pretty much a holiday around here. I didn't have to work (but poor Daddy did), so I got an extra day to hang out with Owen. We enjoyed getting outside for a bit and Owen had fun waving a flag around.

Park Day

Mommy's Day (which are all Fridays since I don't work) was a beautiful day so Owen and I headed to the park in our neighborhood. Owen had the entire place to himself.

And I was having fun playing with my camera. Who can resist with such a cute subject to capture.

And this would normally be a shot that I wouldn't pay much attention to, but check out the hair that is poking out of his hat. Did you know that Owen is finally starting to get some hair? I guess the light color makes it a bit deceiving...but it's finally coming in!

Owen even practiced his walking. The woodchips were kind of a difficult surface, but at least falling wasn't a big deal!

I have a hard time getting Owen to look at the camera and smile. He just doesn't find the camera smile worthy yet. But I was just letting him play for the most part instead of trying to get his attention.

I saw this sign on the way home and thought it was silly. Owen is on the move so much that I'm pretty sure there's no getting him to slow down.

Happy Easter

We were a bit late with coloring our eggs...but we got everything out on Easter Day. Owen wasn't really allowed to get close to the egg dye, but we all had fun coloring our eggs. Grandpa helped Owen do his (which ended up being pink and purple...pretty girly colors).

Then we took a trip to the park. It was sunny, but windy and cold. Owen had to show off to Grandma and Grandpa how he could climb around the playground and go down the slide.

Visiting the Easter Bunny

So we waited for Grandma's visit to take Owen to see the Easter Bunny. This is definitely Grandma's thing! We waited in what seemed like a small line, but it went so slow. Owen is no longer good about hanging out in a stroller, so waiting was like torture. But we eventually got to the front, and had to slowly introduce Owen to the Easter Bunny.

Then he went from this...

to this in about the span of 15 seconds!

13 Months

Each day with Owen feels special. He fills us with so much pride and joy. Complete fun. I can't seem to take my eyes off him...I'm always wondering what he's up to and waiting to see what he does next. We are in total awe of everything he does. He fits perfectly into our lives. Don't know what we would do without him!

13 month milestones:
  • Owen is walking! He just started, so he’s still very wobbly. This past month has shown a lot of progression with him walking. He’ll now hold you hand and walk with you, where he was not at all interested in this before a couple of weeks ago.
  • He can stand well on his own without holding on to anything. The ladies at daycare say he’s got really good balance, so I’ll have to take their word for it.
  • Owen is eating finger foods! No more purees! He seems to do really well with picking up food and putting it in his mouth. It is super nice that he is eating on his own. Now if he could only feed himself yogurt we’d be all set!
  • Owen seems to really like containers filled with toys, like this box of legos that we have. He enjoys taking the legos out, then putting them back in. The same with a big dump truck that he got for his birthday…he loves putting things in, then taking them out.
  • Owen is saying a few words now. His vocabulary consists of bye, ball and Mama & Dada. It’s hard to say what his first word was. I guess I would have to say it was Mama because he says it a lot, especially when he’s fussy. Who knows if he realizes he’s saying my name or if he’s just upset. When he plays with a ball, he definitely says “ba” and we wave bye-bye all the time and I’ve heard him say bye a few times now.
  • Owen laughs at funny things, like Grandma Kuder saying “Zoom, Zoom” or Aunt Cat showing off her power walking. It is such a joy to hear his laugh.
  • Owen is really starting to understand no. There have been times when I have said no and he actually obeys me. I was so thankful the other day when I told him no as he was going after the toilet brush and he actually left it alone! He’ll occasionally shake his head no to me which seems pretty good. It is nice that he’s starting to communicate in his own little way.
  • Owen likes to look at picture books and turn the pages. Still not really interested in stories yet, but we’ll get there.
  • Clapping his hands is something Owen has really gotten into lately. If I start saying “yeah” he’ll start clapping. He especially likes to do it in the bathtub, I think because the wet hands give more of a clapping sound with his small hands.
  • Lately Owen has started having great little "conversations" with me during our drive home from daycare. He's none stop with all kinds of different sounds and babble. These little moments, when he is finding his own vocalizations, are definitely my favorite part of the day.

Great Brook Farm State Park

Today we took Grandma and Grandpa Kuder to check out Great Brook Farm State Park in Carslie. Anything outside is a big hit with Owen, so he happily got in the backpack carrier so that we could explore the place.

A rare family photo. We took a nice hike around the pond.

The cool part about this place was the working dairy farm that we could check out. Owen was thrilled to look at the animals. Sorry all my photos are more Owen centric than animals. But here he's checking out the calves.

And I couldn't bring myself to crop this photo of Owen crouching down to check out the sheep.

The Kuder Boys!

Grandpa was a bit disappointed they weren't serving ice cream. I guess we need to go back this summer!

Owen is Walking!!!

Today was a big day for Owen. This morning after breakfast we were hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa Kuder, who were visiting, when Owen decided to take his first steps. I would call it more of a waddle, but he moved while standing on his own 2 feet! We were all so excited and Owen knew right away he did something great. Of course we tried to get him to repeat this all day long and his waddling became more step like with practice. Owen gets this huge smile and look of pride on his face when he walks. It is the cutest thing. Watching him learn to walk has been the coolest thing yet because he knows he's accomplishing something amazing!

Eating Breakthoughs

Owen has been doing great with solid foods lately. It seemed like he would never get there, but he's finally eating so many more foods on his own. Before I would put cut up fruit or veggies in front of him and he would just squeal until I gave in and fed him the pureed stuff. But now he's experimenting with so many new things. Mac 'n cheese, bananas and cereal bars are his current favorites. I can't wait for the summer fruits to be in season!

Red Sox Opening Day

Well, today was SUPPOSE to be opening day for the Red Sox, but mother nature said otherwise. Daddy and Owen sure did look cute leaving the house this morning in their Red Sox gear.

A Wonderful Day for a Trip to the Park

We met Owen's friend, Danila, at the park today. The boys absolutely loved crawling around. There were other kids around as well, and I was a bit surprised at how much Owen was not intimidated by them at all. He tried his best to keep up.

And even more surprising was that Owen figured out how to go down the slide on his tummy all on his own. He loved it.

It was a fun time at the park, and after an hour of hard play Owen was really tired out. A nice long nap was in order as soon as we got home!
