Our Power Sleeper

Owen is sleeping in longer and longer stretches. He can go as many as 7 or 8 hours in a row at night. How lucky is that? Mommy and Daddy are loving it!

Great Grandma's Bassinet

I couldn't believe that I never took a photo of Owen sleeping in his Great Grandmother's bassinet. He has been sleeping in his big crib for a while now, but we used this little crib a lot in the first two months of his life. It was perfect for having him sleep right next to me. I swaddled him up today, like he always loves, and put him in for a photo and he instantly fell asleep. One last nap in Great Grandma's bassinet.

The Drool Monster

I guess lots of drool just happens with babies, and Owen is no exception. It's not unusual for him to go through a few shirts a day. We've started putting bibs on him to minimize the damage. He still looks more adorable than ever, drool and all!

Our Little Man

Owen just continues to get bigger and bigger. The double chin, plump belly and chubby legs have shown up. I've started putting him in the 3-6 month clothing already and it doesn't seem like he'll stay in that size for very long! We made a trip to the doctor's last week and Owen weighed in at 14 lbs. 4 oz. I was shocked to learn that he was in the 75th percentile for weight. It's hard to believe that we were worried about his weight when we first brought him home from the hospital!

Mommy Time

It's been a busy week with working and adjusting to daycare. We are trying to get into a routine, but it doesn't always work out with an infant. We are a slave to his clock, but it's getting easier. Boy, do I love it when Friday comes around and I get to spend the whole day with Owen. I seem to look forward to it all week. Today we had beautiful weather so we set up camp in the backyard. Owen just loves to be outside. He can be crying away, then as soon as you walk out the door with him, he immediately stops. I think he's going to be an outdoor type!

Breaking News

Now that Owen is holding his head up more, Brian turned him front facing in the Baby Bjorn. He can see what's going on now...how exciting!

Happy Father's Day!

Brian had his first Father's Day today. Owen got him some fun Red Sox gear. Does it count as a Father's Day gift when your son buys you a hat and t-shirt for himself? I know Brian will enjoy showing off his little Red Sox guy!

Question

How does Owen look in overalls, y'all?

The Hand has been found!

So Owen has been putting his hand in his mouth more and more. It used to be that he would find his hand by accident, but now I feel like he knows exactly what he's doing when he guides that hand straight to the mouth.

Daddy Time

Brian probably can't wait until Owen becomes more interactive. He tries to play games with him, but Owen has a bit of a scared response to it. Brian will roll Owen over and over along the couch. Owen will lay there as stiff as a board for it. Brian thinks he likes it, but I don't see a smile on his face so I'm reserving judgement.

3 Months Old

I can't believe Owen is 3 months old today. First, I wanted to say what a joy it is to have him in our lives. I love this little guy so much. Every coo, each smile and all the cuddling makes me fall in love even more.

Owen had grown so much. I thought I'd list a few of his milestones:
  • He smiles! There is nothing better than finding the right silly face or noise to make him smile. Just today I said "The Cookie Monster" to him in a silly voice and got the biggest smile.
  • He's beginning to hold his head up on his own. Brian said it'll be a wonderful day when he can hold his head up. I keep saying it's not going to happen overnight, but he's getting there.
  • Owen is really starting to be more responsive to us. He'll look at you if you're talking to him. He likes to babble and coo if you have a good conversation with him.
  • Owen has found his feet. He likes to stretch and kick his feet so much. When he's in the play yard, he uses his feet to bat at the objects hanging down.
  • He's starting to grasp things. We should be better about putting toys for him to grab in front of him, but he will clutch things, like fabric, in his hand. I've noticed him grabbing his burp cloth.

Reunited

So we've survived our first two days at work and daycare. Owen seems to be adjusting fine except that they can't get him to sleep for more than 30 minutes at a time. Today he took 5 half hour naps while at daycare. I hope that sleeping gets a little easier for him. Brian was disappointed because Owen was so tired tonight that he feel asleep at 6 and only got up to feed at 9. He missed the entire Celtics game! The sweltering heat we are having might also have something to do with his fatigue. I shouldn't complain about a baby that sleeps, but it is nice to hang out with him in the evening...just the 3 of us.

Story Time

The above is my version of story time with Owen. We've been stocking up on books and reading to Owen more and more. Most of the time he's not that interested in the book, but it's never too early to read to a child, right?

This is Daddy's version of story time. It doesn't look very cozy, does it? Brian likes to hold Owen on his lap like this and Owen seems to enjoy it.

Just for Owen

I had this bag made for us to use for daycare. It kind of makes me think of it as Owen's first school bag. Yeah, daycare isn't exactly school...but I'll fool myself into thinking it's a fun place for him to go and make some friends. Owen and I stopped by the daycare center today to drop off supplies and kind of go over Owen's routine. Taking him on Monday for the first time is going to be heartbreaking.

Tummy Time

In an attempt to get Owen to practice holding his head up more, I try to give him "tummy time" at least once a day. When Brian gets home from work every evening, he asks if Owen has done his "tummy time" for the day. I get scolded if the answer is no.

Mommy's Favorite Outfit

I had to snap this silly photo of Owen in my favorite outfit. I bought it two days before he was born, thinking it would be cute for him to wear home from the hospital. What was I thinking? Of course I had no idea he would be showing up two weeks early, so it wasn't even washed and ready for the hospital bag. But it would not have mattered because he was no where near big enough to wear it at the time. He was a measly 6 lbs. 3 oz. when we left the hospital. Now, I'm guess he's around 14 pounds and this is probably the last time he'll wear it - it's looking a bit tight!

Who's Owen?

Sometimes I wonder if Owen is going to be confused on what his name is. He probably hears from both me and Brian "Hey Little Man" or "You're the Cutest" or "Love you, Buddy" more often than his own name. Aunt Leslie kept calling him Mr. Owen, which I found adorable. I might have to steal that one for myself.

My father is known for coming up with nicknames and I'm still waiting on him to come up one for Owen. He told me that Owen needs to do something other than eat, sleep, poop or fart before he can come up with a good nickname.

Owen is starting to coo and make his own little cute noises. I try and say Mommy to him a lot in an attempt to get him to say it. I know it's a long ways away, but it'll kill me if Brian gets him to say Daddy first!!!

Getting so BIG!

The other day we were putting away laundry in our room and Brian tucked Owen into our bed. I just can't get over how big he is getting. We can get him to smile all the time. He loves it when you stick your tongue out at him or make any kind of weird noise with your mouth. He even tries to mimic us by sticking out his own tongue. It's the cutest thing.
